We moved to Houston in April and thought we were moving into a newly built high rise luxury apartment. This was ideal given I was working from home (awesome views) and it gave us an opportunity to look for a home at our own pace. This was the biggest mistake we could have made; we had to deal w/elevators falling 6 floors and management not making residents aware, parties at all hours of the day (including work hours), assaults, urine in the elevators and vomit in the hallways. Doesn't this sound like Vegas? This was extremely difficult since I worked from home, I had to deal with trust fund babies and their shenanigans day after day. To make the long story short we tried to make things better by moving into another unit in the high rise two months after moving in, but that didn't help. We ultimately had to hire a lawyer (best money we have spent), to get out of our lease and it worked. Originally, The Legacy at Memorial,now Memorial by Windsor, (they changed their name because of all of the bad publicity; people moved out left and right) wanted us to pay $54,000 to get out of our lease, yes $54,000, but little did they know they messed with the wrong peeps.

We were able to get out of our lease without any penalties, but the only stipulation was that we had to move out within thirty days. We decided we were over renting, especially with The Legacy at Memorial experience. This meant we needed to find a house, close on the house and move in within thirty days. Well...we did it. We found the perfect house full of good energy. It needed a few updates, but we've enjoyed putting our own personal touches. The lesson in all of this is -Things are not always what they seem and paying more doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the best.
Someone once told me "You can make any house a home". They were right.
